Sahsho Shichimi is a spice combining traditional Shichimi spices with Japanese Sansho. Related to the Sichuan peppercorn, Sansho Japanese pepper (zanthoxylum piperitum) has a citrusy flavor and a similar numbing effect. These little green seed pods grow on the Japanese prickly ash, and are a classic flavoring for yakitori, unagi and many more dishes. We recommend trying it on karaage or fried chicken!
